Malocclusions, or issues with the spacing, alignment or positioning of the teeth and jaws, come in a variety of different forms. As board-certified orthodontists, Dr. Ibrahim and Dr. Gin have the training and expertise to determine the underlying cause and develop a personalized treatment plan to remedy it. While every smile is unique, here are the most common orthodontic problems we see:

CROWDING
Crowding is one of the most common orthodontic problems. It occurs when teeth overlap and become crooked due to a lack of space in the jaw.

OPENBITE
With an open bite, the upper and lower front teeth don’t make contact when the jaws are closed and the back teeth are touching.

UNDERBITE
An underbite is characterized by lower teeth that sit in front of the upper teeth when the teeth are closed together.

OVERBITE
An overbite, sometimes referred to as overjet, is when the top teeth sit substantially farther forward than the bottom teeth when the teeth are closed together.

SPACING
Last but not least in our discussion of common orthodontic problems is spacing. This is when there’s too much room in the jaw and there are gaps between the teeth.
