Types of Malocclusions

Malocclusions, or issues with the spacing, alignment or positioning of the teeth and jaws, come in a variety of different forms. As a board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Ibrahim has the training and expertise to determine the underlying cause and develop a personalized treatment plan to remedy it. While every smile is unique, cases typically fall into the following categories:

crowding-before crowding-after

CROWDING

When crowding occurs, the teeth overlap and become crooked due to a lack of space in the jaw.

openbite-before openbite-after

OPENBITE

With an open bite, the upper and lower front teeth don’t make contact when the jaws are closed and the back teeth are touching.

underbite-before underbite-after

UNDERBITE

An underbite is characterized by lower teeth that sit in front of the upper teeth when the teeth are closed together.

overbit-before overbit-after

OVERBITE

An overbite, sometimes referred to as overjet, is when the top teeth sit substantially farther forward than the bottom teeth when the teeth are closed together.
